The books I chose were PHB+ XGtE, but I didn`t need XGtE at all, it was a choice that was made because I had to make one. PHB classics are PHB classics for a reason. I always have fun with basic races and don`t need monsters to have fun, unlike many people who just want to do anything and once they`re done, stop or don`t find a good reason to play an elf or dwarf. So it suits me well with him! There are two different ways in which a race can be “official”: it can be “official” in the sense of fully tested and legal for sanctioned organized game campaigns, and it could be published “officially” in the sense of Wizards of the Coast`s Part 1 material. Which one is relevant depends on why you are looking for an “official” race. One of the playable races in the player`s companion is the Aarakocra (which I can unfortunately spell without reference after writing an adventure that highlighted them – that`s a lot of brain cells I`ll never find). The Aarakocra is a breed of bird that has an air velocity. And not just any speed, but a speed of 50 feet. Monster Manual, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, Rise of Tiamat, Tyranny of Dragons Player`s Guide, Out of the Abyss, Rage of Demons Player`s Guide, Curse of Strahd, Storm King`s Thunder, Tales from the Yawning Portal, Xanathar`s Guide to Everything, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Dungeon of the Mad Mage do not offer playable races. Tomb of Annihilation offers a charity supplement in its The Tortle package. (And Xanathar`s Guide to Everything offers racial advantages, so those interested in racial options will want to take a look at XGtE anyway.) Tasha`s Cauldron of Everything includes a custom lineage option that is not a breed per se, but relevant for mention. After Monsters of the Multiverse, Adventurer`s League invites players to update their characters.
The announcement showed that the player races in the new book are the only valid ones for the Adventurer`s League game. However, we also understand that a large number of playable races are affected by the changes. We ask Dungeon Masters and other players who have access to Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse to be patient while players spend time adapting their characters to the revised race mechanics. As a new player, I`ve been down the rabbit hole of playable breeds and I`m just curious to know which ones are allowed in the League of Adventurers. It would be helpful if spells, races, exploits, and subclasses were also marked consistently with their sources. You may think that the material presented in this series is similar to the first wave of the playtest of the fifth edition. These game mechanics are in design form, can be used in your campaign, but are not completely mitigated by game tests and design iterations. They are not officially part of the game. For these reasons, the contents of this column are not legal during D&D Organized Play events. While you can create any character you want, there are some restrictions on which races and classes are allowed.
These are designed to keep the game balanced and accessible to new players. See the Player`s Guide for more information on these rules. It is recommended to use the player`s guide, which is updated seasonally. D&D Beyond wants to make creating AL-legal characters as easy as possible. Therefore, they are currently working on a character validation system. The League of Adventurers has a set of rules for character creation. This makes it easier for players to meet and play games, especially when playing different races. For this reason, players can choose any of the available races. You can also select one of the available classes.
These rules are not rigid. They change with each season and players can choose the races and classes they want to play. However, they will still be able to create their own characters. Disclaimer: As always, consult your DM before playing any of these races: These races may not be suitable for all players. Stop playing a race if you don`t like it. Neither Wizards of the Coast nor RPG.SE are responsible for anything you do while playing any of these races. Please ride responsibly. The game mechanics of this supplement can be used in your D&D campaign, but are not completely mitigated by playtests and design iterations. For these reasons, the content of this supplement is not legal in D&D Organized Play events. There isn`t much material released by WotC for 5th (compared to previous editions), and there are no plans to be.
However, there are playable races for D&D scattered in different locations in published products that people may not even be familiar with. What are all the playable races and where can you find each of them? Later, however, Choosing Your Breed indicates a subset of the breeds listed per book. I love the history and ecology of Aarakocra. Their connections to the D&D mythology of the Dukes of the Winds of Aqaa, the war against the forces of chaos and the personnel of the seven parties have a good place in my game memory. However, a playable race with sustained air speed may be enough to give DM`s adjustment. For this reason, Aarakocra are well placed in the PDF, but are not considered legal for use as a player race in the D&D Adventurers League (D&D AL).
