During basic training, each member of the service must pass a fitness test (PFT) specific to each department: you know the requirements you are starting with and what you want to bring with you. In short, it involves a lot of physical activity and class time and little sleep. You will be in physical training (PT) 6 days a week until 05:00. Women must do 17 push-ups, 50 sit-ups and a two-mile run in less than 19 minutes and 36 seconds. The final phase of the training builds on everything you have learned and serves as a final rite of passage from civilian to soldier. During this phase, you will continue to learn advanced shooting and maneuvering techniques, including countering targets within a team and identifying and disabling improvised explosive devices. You will train on advanced weapons such as machine guns and learn how to throw live grenades. As part of your final challenges, you`ll complete a multi-day field training exercise known as The Forge, which includes land navigation to test your survival, fitness, and soldier skills. At the end of this phase, after passing all your challenges, you will be qualified to wear the army`s Black Beret and get the right to be called a soldier.
