Westlaw is an extensive database of British, US and international legal documents, including cases, statutes and journal articles. The Law Journal library contains more than 500 American, British, Australian and international law journals. For most journals, appointment scheduling starts very early (in many cases, from the first issue). However, the latest editions (during the last calendar year) are sometimes unavailable due to licensing restrictions. HeinOnline provides these journals annually on an ongoing basis. Oxford SSO holders can access major English-language legal journals online through one of the following legal databases. If the Bodleian libraries do not have the journal or article you are looking for, you can make a recommendation by filling out the form below (Oxford Single-Sign On required). SOLO does not include abbreviations for legal reports or magazines: you must use the full title to perform a successful search in SOLO. For example, use Modern Law Review (not MLR), Lloyds Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly (not LMCLQ). The online tool below, the Cardiff Index, will help you find out what this abbreviation means! If not, ask a law librarian! Keep in mind that legal developments may well be the subject of articles in legal journals published in other jurisdictions. There are special tools – not just searching for articles from SOLO and Google Scholar! – to help you find articles published in scientific journals. Enjoy! Some researchers may remember ZETOC.
In its place, we recommend the open access service JournalsTOCs – “the largest free collection of scientific journals Table of Contents (TOC): 32,312 journals, including 15,741 selected open access journals and 11,834 hybrid journals, from 3333 publishers.” Please note that you must register as an individual – this is not an electronic resource related to Oxford SSO. LawBod`s journal collections are not located in a specific room or floor. The first element of the signature is the indication of which floor(s) you should visit. Tip for SOLO results for journal searches It is quite common for an electronic journal to be provided by more than one database. As a rule, this is due to the fact that no vendor has the entire review from the first to the last volume. So if you`re looking for a specific item (you know one or both volume number and year), make sure you select the database that contains that volume/year – it won`t necessarily be the first on the list of alternatives. But there are also journals available on other platforms, such as the University of Pennsylvania`s Journal of Business Law, which is an extension of the University of Pennsylvania`s Journal of Business and Employment Law, which has been publishing cutting-edge business and employment grants for more than two decades. Use the other tabs in this box to find recommended journals and guides to specific online tools to help you find articles in law journals. The data, which are updated weekly, consist of articles for the current year, with data for other years going back to 1970.
By default, the data in each index is reset to the current year plus the previous three years (this can be reset), with the search covering one index at a time. Many of the new articles contain abstracts as well as author, title, and review information with citation lists. On this page you will find a selection of journals that publish articles on corporate and commercial law. Colleagues may find this a useful reference in deciding where to publish. A journal is a regular publication (monthly, annual, etc.) where you can find academic and research articles. The articles present current research and quick (but thoughtful) responses to legal developments, such as case commentary. Peer-reviewed journals submit potential articles for review by other experts before publication, so you can be sure of the quality of those that will eventually be included in the volume. Most Bodleian library journals in physical and electronic form can be accessed via SOLO, but you may find the law library database easier to use. Founded in 1997, the Journal of Business Law publishes articles and commentaries on a wide range of business law topics, including corporate governance, securities regulation, capital markets regulation, labor law, and mergers and acquisitions law.
The types of documents covered include journal articles, conference proceedings, essay collections, directories, and book reviews. The database includes all languages. Materials in Greek, Cyrillic, and the colloquial East Asian language are romanized according to Library of Congress standards. Arabic and Hebrew titles are translated into English or French. If Bodleian libraries do not have the journal you are looking for, we may be able to obtain it from the Oxford Interlibrary Loan Service. Legal databases and e-journal platforms offer you the possibility to set up individual notifications and/or an RSS feed. Search for “Current Awareness”, “Stay Up-to-date”, “Create an alert” or the bell symbol: the instructions are usually clear. If you encounter any difficulties, please contact us.
Note that Westlaw Edge UK also includes the formerly separate LawTel service. An ETOC or TOC option provides the complete table of contents for each new journal issue. When you arrive at the Law Library, check out the Level 2 Corner (the entry level), which features the latest issues of these law journals that have still been preserved in print. (This view is updated weekly.)
