Congress passed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act in 1984, which sets the legal purchasing age at 21. Since then, alcohol consumption by high school students has decreased significantly, from 66% to 42% (see chart). Over the same period, binge drinking among high school graduates, that is, five or more drinks occasionally, decreased from 37% to 24%. The minimum drinking age also means that establishments can discriminate against you based on your age and deny you access to an establishment, even if you don`t drink. There are also laws that prevent you from having certain jobs that involve serving or selling alcohol, or that punish people who let young people drink on their property. In addition, in each state, the acceptable blood alcohol limit for seniors is 0.08, but young people are subject to much stricter blood alcohol laws that allow for a very small margin of error. People under the age of 21 who work in the restaurant or food and beverage industry may be able to purchase alcohol for their work. However, in most cases, they are not allowed to drink it. Many European countries, including the United Kingdom, have a more liberal drinking age.

Some countries even allow children to drink, as long as they do so in the privacy of their homes and under the supervision of their parents. The legal drinking age has been discussed in many cultures and countries. Some believe that it instills the habit of drinking responsibly, and that the ban, on the other hand, encourages children to drink secretly or find illegal methods of buying alcohol. In general, a “family member” is a parent, guardian or spouse. But laws vary widely from state to state as to when a family member can provide or permit consumption from a person under the age of 21. Some people believe that lowering the drinking age can prevent medical emergencies and dangerous situations from escalating or becoming fatal. They claim that people who drink illegally are not allowed to call 911 if a friend is in trouble or if an accident happened because he was drinking, for fear of getting into trouble with the law or with their family. Many may not be aware that most states have laws that protect them from legal consequences when they report an emergency. The Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) laws state that the legal age at which a person can purchase alcoholic beverages in America is 21. Despite this flexibility for states, Congress retains the power to use financial and tax incentives to promote certain alcohol policies, such as the legal drinking age.

The Uniform Federal Drinking Age Act of 1984 sets the legal drinking age at 21, and every state adheres to this standard. After the illegal trade began to flourish, America decided to lift alcohol prohibition. July 21 is also the birthday of famous writer and cocktail drinker Ernest Hemmingway, who was born on this day in 1899. Legal drinking age day is also the appropriate day to celebrate the author`s drinking skills. Wisconsin has experienced problems with underage drinking on college campuses. In 2017, a state legislator tried to pass a bill that would lower the drinking age to nineteen to reduce excessive alcohol consumption. That bill didn`t pass, but underage teens can currently drink at a bar or restaurant with a parent in Wisconsin. Under Wisconsin law, 18- to 20-year-olds can legally drink with a parent, guardian or spouse 21 and older. Yes. Injuries caused by alcohol use among adolescents are not inevitable, and reducing adolescent access to alcohol is a national priority. Whichever side you are in the debate about the minimum drinking age, the truth is that alcohol can be dangerous and deadly at any age. When alcohol consumption evolves into alcohol dependence, it takes control of your life.

As one of America`s most popular authors, the day also celebrates the literary genius of Ernest Hemingway. It`s a great day to reread your favorite Hemingway book with your first drink in hand. Some people believe that raising the legal drinking age to 25 is essential because of considerations such as emotional and physical maturity. They also say that the minimum drinking age saves lives by reducing the risk of danger to oneself and others. Here are some reasons why they believe the legal drinking age should be raised to 25: We all have fond memories of the day we drank our first legal sip of alcohol. The United States of America celebrates Legal Drinking Age Day every year on July 21. Not only are people nostalgic for their first drinks and toasts, but it`s also a day to educate young people about responsible consumption.

This day will also see discussions on how to deal with the increase in alcoholism and drunk driving. The easiest way to celebrate Legal Drinking Age Day is to relax after a long day with your favorite beverage when you are over the legal drinking age. After prohibition, nearly all states introduced a legal drinking age (MLDA) of 21. However, between 1970 and 1975, 29 states lowered the MLDA to 18, 19 or 20, mostly in response to the change in voting age. Studies conducted at the time showed that motor vehicle accidents among young people increased as states lowered their MLDA. In addition, the “blood boundaries” between states with different MLDAs came to public attention after high-profile accidents in which underage teens drove to a neighboring state with a lower MLDA, drank legally, and crashed on their way home. Stakeholders called on states to increase their MLDA to 21. Some did so in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but others did not. To promote a national drinking age, Congress enacted the National MLDA.

A 1988 review by the U.S. General Accounting Office found that raising the drinking age reduced alcohol consumption among adolescents, driving after drinking among adolescents, and alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents among adolescents. People who do not think that the drinking age should be increased and possibly lowered feel this way for a number of reasons. Some believe it is a form of ageism, which actually encourages underage drinking and can put lives at risk because underage drinkers are concerned about reporting emergencies. Along with Oregon, California has the oldest MLDA 21 laws in the country. In 2016, there was an initiative to lower the drinking age to 18, but it didn`t get much support. However, the consumption of alcohol by minors is allowed in the presence of a responsible adult. It was made to help parents teach their children the importance of moderation in alcohol consumption. Proponents of keeping the minimum drinking age at 21 or lowering the drinking age say the law contradicts other minimum age laws. They point to the fact that people own a gun, join the military, vote and can be convicted of a crime as an adult at the age of 18, so not allowing people to drink until age 21 is a form of ageism.

Legal drinking age day encourages us to drink moderately and responsibly. Uncontrolled alcohol consumption can lead to impaired judgment, impaired emotional and physical well-being, and even alcoholism. As part of undercover work or research, it is legal in some states for a minor employed in law enforcement to purchase and consume alcohol.
