Both prosecutors said these age-based laws are generally an important way to punish those who sexually abuse children. As we have seen, most children born before the end of the marriage process are still actively desired by their fathers. However, for a child whose father shirks paternal responsibility, there are a number of economic and social barriers. In rural areas, where recognized ancestry defines a person`s land status, the absence of a recognized father almost inevitably leads to difficulties. In Cameroon, however, children born before marriage can be legitimized separately from their father. Among the Beti, these children are also dependent on all the ad hoc conditions that can be made with their maternal parents, conditions that imply a low right to land (Guyer, 1984). When land is scarce or land values rise, claims by children of incomplete ancestry may be a low priority or contested by those with stronger claims. This would likely result in greater differentiation within the rural population, as well as urban migration of people who have few significant links to the countryside. Most young children are not held legally responsible for harmful sexual behavior with other children, especially if they are other close children at an advanced age – no more than 3 years apart.

Of course, the nature of the behaviour and the age of the child who initiated it are taken into account in deciding whether or not legal action can be considered. Today`s teens have easy access to highly sexualized material through movies, television, music, the internet, and magazines. Sex is used to sell almost anything, and mainstream media content is more sexualized than ever. Some boys report that they saw sexually explicit material before their illegal behavior and that this material influenced their actions. Some teens live in a highly sexualized home with frequent, open sexual behavior between adults. This environment can also influence their decisions and behaviors. Both Linderman and Telgenhof said real sex isn`t the only sex-related way teens get into legal trouble. Both may have said more frequently that underage teens who have sex are instances where they have used phones and other devices to take sexually explicit photos of themselves and, or another significant one. One of the consequences of these huge laws is to hinder efforts to obtain reliable information about abortions, many of which are illegal by law.

Despite women`s understandable reluctance to discuss abortion, many studies show that abortions are due to pregnancies where paternal recognition is a problem (see, for example, Nichols et al., 1986; Nichols et al., 1987. Caldwell and Caldwell, 1988; Coeytaux, 1988; Kulin, 1988; Baker and Khasiani, 1992). In many countries, most women seeking abortions are unmarried adolescents (see Caldwell and Caldwell, 1988). Many are unemployed or underemployed (see, for example, Lema and Kabeberi-Macharia, 1990) or desperately want to stay in school. Oppong (1991) points out that pregnancy threatens young women`s education, training and employment opportunities, but that, in theory, abortion should be quite rare in sub-Saharan Africa because it is either illegal or quite restricted (see tables 7-1 and 7-2). However, out of 38 in recent years, school and law enforcement officials have added warnings to these sex discussions about the legal implications teens might face when it comes to sex and related material. No. Most adolescents engaged in illegal sexual behaviour are very different from offenders.

Youth commit fewer illegal acts over shorter periods of time, their behaviour is less aggressive, and they are much less likely to be sexually attracted exclusively to young children. More importantly, their rate of future illicit sexual behaviour is lower than that of offenders. Comparatively little systematic research on the subject, let`s focus on what is best documented: the consequences on the health of mother and child. Even here, our knowledge is extremely thin, for example about the frequency of induced abortions in Africa. After dealing with other types of consequences in a more superficial way, we draw some conclusions about the consequences of giving birth to adolescents under unauthorized conditions. Photographing or filming anyone under the age of 17 is illegal. According to the law, this is the production of child pornography, and the penalty for this is up to 10 years in prison without the possibility of probation or probation. Sharing these images is also illegal. Although fewer girls may drop out of school if pregnancy was less stigmatized at school, giving birth to adolescent girls in Africa usually results in a sudden halt to a young woman`s formal education, as shown in Chapter 5.
