The Family Relationship Centre and Legal Assistance Services Partnership was established to facilitate an ongoing relationship between the Launceston Family Relationship Centre (FRC) and the Launceston Community Legal Centre (LCLC), allowing FRC clients to access direct legal services throughout the family dispute resolution process. This program is unique in that it provides objective legal aid and help in resolving family disputes, rather than because of its failure, which can be a critical factor for out-of-court resolution. The LCLC provides free legal services to people who feel they have been treated differently because of their disability. People may experience discrimination on the basis of disability in a number of different areas, including: The Launceston Community Legal Centre offers a free walk-in legal clinic staffed by experienced pro bono lawyers from private companies in Launceston. LCLC provides FREE legal advice to the most vulnerable people in the community. In these difficult financial times, LCLC is now committed to supporting only those who are financially disadvantaged in any way and who fall into one of the categories of “priority customers” listed in the National Partnership Agreement. Initially, clients are offered one-time forty-five minute legal advice, which may include, but is not limited to, matters such as wills, powers of attorney, debts, contracts, consumer rights, border fences and cease and desist orders, employment or unfair dismissal issues, family law matters, social rights issues and discrimination against persons with disabilities. We also offer advice to clients who wish to litigate themselves. The disability advocate will be able to advise people on the merits of their case, what steps they can take, and offer free legal representation in certain circumstances. We provide legal information and advice to clients and FRC staff, individually and in groups. We also draft consent orders as a result of successful parenting plans, but we do not represent our clients in court if they fail to resolve their cases. Our goal is to help families resolve their own differences wherever possible, while ensuring that the best interests of the child are paramount. Lawyers regularly visit each of the municipalities listed below to provide advice on general civil law and other matters (family law, labour law, discrimination against persons with disabilities, etc.).
